Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel vs Essence SPF50+ PA++++ #review

About the company

Skin Aqua is a Japanese brand owned by Rohto Mentholatum. Mentholatum is an American company founded in 1889. In 1974 it was bought by the Japanese giant Rohto and this is how the Rohto Mentholatum we know today was born. You can read more about these companies, I found their history very interesting. I leave you with a link to their website in Japan, where you can browse through their products. They even have a section dedicated to products that will no longer be manufactured. In order to browse the site, you must activate the translation from Japanese to English. https://jp.rohto.com/skin-aqua/super-moisture-essence/

Review

Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel SPF50+ PA++++

The gel version of this spf is the most popular among Asian skincare lovers in Romania. It's not hard to understand why.

Its texture is watery, fluid, with a rather strong smell of alcohol. The smell disappears after the product is absorbed into the skin. The amount needed for the skin is 2 pumps, but as the bottle is running out, air gaps may prevent the product from being evenly distributed at each press. Keep that in mind!

It has a white color, but once massaged and absorbed into the skin, it leaves no white cast at all. It leaves a LIGHT dewy look, an ok glow of healthy skin, so to speak. In my case, my eyes don't sting and I can apply it to the eye area.

Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel is waterproof and does not peel.

I did not have any purging reaction or rather, an aggravation of acne from it. Having combo acne prone skin, this is a very important aspect for me.

It is a good makeup base, the foundation settles well. It can be easily reapplied during the day, even over makeup by tapping.

The alcohol in it does not make it very suitable for dry and / or sensitive skin. I think it would only work if a very moisturizing cream was used in the daily routine, and during the day the use of a moisturizing mist is done, especially if it is reapplied. I see it as ideal for especially oily skin, but also for combination. It also works for normal skin, but be careful with hydration.

This variant comes in a bottle with a practical 140ml pump, the quantity-price ratio being very good.

Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Essence SPF 50+ PA++++

I ordered this version of Skin Aqua when the gel was out of stock for a very long time.

Its texture is creamy with the same strong smell of alcohol. Again, the smell is no longer felt after the product is absorbed. The amount needed for the face and neck is 3 fingers, the length of the index finger, middle and ring.

It has a white color, but once massaged and absorbed into the skin, it leaves no white cast at all. This time, it takes a little more massage than gel for complete absorption. The finish of the essence is a dewy one step away from shiny. Unlike the gel version from which I have no problems with eye sting, this essence version stings my eyes. Bearable, but undesirable :) At least it doesn't peel.

And this formula is resistant to water and perspiration and again did not cause me acne.

It is a good make-up base and is reapplied nicely during the day, only it wouldn't go over the make-up, not even by tapping.

The fact that it is essence means that it is a moisturizing product, ie more suitable for dry / normal skin ... but, alcohol kind of takes it out of this sphere, this is a somewhat paradoxical situation. I think the essence would be ideal for combination skin in particular, but also for normal. About oily skin, I do not know what to say, maybe without day moisturizer.

In the end, it's all about testing when it comes to the ideal spf.

Yay or Nay?

Both variants of Skin Aqua are Yay for me. These are some products that I would gladly buy back, but I have to be very careful with applying the essence in the eye area.

Where to buy it:

1. YesStyle: At the time of publication, the YS15TH added in the Coupon Code section brings you a 10-15% discount depending on the value of the order, and the OANA310 code in the Rewards Code section an extra discount of 2-5%, so you could have a total discount of 14-20% depending on the value of the order or if you are a new customer. I wrote an article about shopping on YesStyle aici.
